Who we are at ReportOUT

Across the world, LGBTQI+ rights are facing a dangerous and accelerating rollback. Hard-won legal protections are being dismantled, hostile laws are being introduced or expanded, and LGBTQI+ people are increasingly targeted by political leaders, parts of the media, religious and extremist movements seeking to mobilise fear for power. From criminalisation and censorship, to violence, exclusion from services, and erasure from development agendas, these attacks are coordinated, transnational, and deliberate.
In this context, ReportOUT is needed more than ever. We exist to document what others try to hide, to challenge impunity, and to ensure LGBTQI+ communities are not sacrificed in moments of political retreat. At a time when silence costs lives, ReportOUT brings evidence, visibility, and resistance, turning lived experience into action, and ensuring that equality, dignity, and human rights are defended everywhere they are under threat.
ReportOUT is built by and for activists, researchers, educators, and advocates who refuse to accept injustice as inevitable. Our work is shaped by people with lived experience, deep regional knowledge, and a commitment to transforming evidence into action. From documenting abuses on the ground, to challenging power in global forums, we stand alongside LGBTQI+ communities with courage, integrity, and purpose. We do not speak for communities, we work with them to demand dignity, equality, and lasting change. We report, inform, and defend.
What do ReportOUT do?
-
Research and documentation: We research, monitor, and document human rights abuses and development gaps affecting LGBTQI+ people in the UK and globally, working closely with activists, communities, and partner organisations on the ground, to centre lived experience and credible evidence.
-
Support and tackling issues amongst global majority people: We deliver drop-ins and support services, at a local level, to support the needs of LGBTQI+ migrants, who in turn, help to inform our work.
-
Education and capacity building: We deliver training, workshops, events, exhibitions, and online learning programmes that build knowledge, leadership, and campaigning skills for LGBTQI+ activists, civil society, professionals, and allies.
-
Advocacy and campaigns: We design and deliver strategic advocacy and public campaigns that challenge discrimination, counter rollbacks on rights, and influence decision-makers at national, regional, and international levels, including engagement with global institutions.
-
Convening and dialogue: We convene local, national and international spaces for action and solidarity, including flagship summits and forums that bring together activists, researchers, policymakers, and communities to shape collective responses and shared agendas.
-
Policy influence and systems change: We translate research and community insight into policy recommendations, declarations, and practical tools that strengthen inclusion of LGBTQI+ people across human rights and international development frameworks at local, national and international levels.
-
Visibility and inclusion: Across all of our work, we amplify LGBTQI+ voices, ensure representation, and advocate for meaningful inclusion so that no one is left behind.
Our vision and mission
Our vision:
A world where LGBTQI+ people everywhere can live with their human rights and dignity, supported by strong, informed, and resilient movements for change.
Our mission:
ReportOUT advances global LGBTQI+ human rights and development needs through research, education, events, advocacy, support, and rapid response.
We centre lived experiences, strengthen grassroots leadership, and produce credible evidence to challenge injustice, influence institutions, and support sustainable movements, particularly in contexts where rights are under threat.

Our guiding principles
Safety first and do no harm:
We prioritise the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of LGBTQI+ people in all our work, especially in hostile or high-risk contexts.
Lived experience leads:
Those most affected by injustice and left behind in development shape the actions and solutions. We centre LGBTQI+ voices, knowledge, and leadership in our research, education, and advocacy.
Ethical, evidence-led action:
We act with integrity, credibility, and care. Our work is grounded in ethical practice, robust evidence, and responsible storytelling.
Educate to build understanding:
We believe informed societies are essential for lasting change. We educate the public, challenge misinformation, and build empathy and allyship.
Campaign for structural change:
We move beyond awareness to action. We campaign strategically to challenge systems, laws, and institutions that harm LGBTQI+ people.
Solidarity with purpose:
We act in global solidarity while respecting local context. Our partnerships and responses are non-extractive, accountable, and rooted in shared responsibility.
